Speed/Distance Converter Stopwatches

A speed/distance converter in a stopwatch is a specialised feature that automatically calculates your speed based on a pre-entered distance and the time you record. Instead of performing mental maths, the stopwatch uses internal algorithms to give you real-time feedback on your rate of travel.

How It Works:

  1. Input Distance: You manually enter the distance of your course or segment into the stopwatch (e.g. 0.5 miles or 1.0 km).
  2. Take a Split: You start the timer and then press the split/lap button when you complete that specific distance.
  3. Automatic Calculation: The stopwatch instantly processes the formula
  4. Display Result: The screen toggles or displays a second line showing your average speed for that segment, such as miles per hour (mph) or kilometres per hour (kmh).

Practical Uses

  • Racing Circuits: Calculating the average speed of a car or bike on a known track length.
  • Consistency Training: Helping runners or cyclists maintain a specific pace/speed over repeated intervals.
  • Navigational Pacing: Estimating arrival times based on current speed during transit.
