Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive ('WEEE Directive')

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ("WEEE") Regulations came into force on 2 January 2007 and the various obligations took effect at different stages throughout 2007. These regulations transpose the EU WEEE Directive, which aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve this by making producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment, and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge ("Take-back"). 

WEEE Compliance terms and conditions:

1. In accordance with Regulation 31, we will take back, free of charge and on a one-to-one basis, stopwatches and other products (new EEE) sold through our website and delivered to a private household provided that any such WEEE -

   1. is of equivalent type to, and

   2. has fulfilled the same function as the supplied equipment.

Our obligation to advise you:

As a wholesaler/distributor who supplies new EEE we are obliged to bring to your attention that:

1. The WEEE regulations are European Law and Under Article 2 of the Directive it is the requirement of each member State to minimise the disposal of WEEE as unsorted municipal waste and to achieve a high level of collection of WEEE for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal.

2. Our role in this process includes offering a take back arrangement (see above). We also have an arrangement with our manufacturers to sort, reuse and recycle materials and components returned to them under this scheme.

3. We need to advise you of the potential effects on the environment and human health where there are any hazardous substances in the products we supply.

4. We need to advise you of the meaning of the crossed out wheeled bin symbol which appear on our products/packaging - This symbol means that the product comes under the rules of WEEE regulations. As a consumer we encourage you to separate out your WEEE and discard it separately from other household waste. The symbol does not indicate that WEEE is banned from being disposed of as general waste. But to remind you that recycling facilities exist throughout the UK.
